BACKGROUND:  I started Sonki Fitness with my friend, Cerentha, in the late spring. I can’t believe we have managed to keep getting up every morning, three times a week, even on the darkest, coldest day, and turn up for our workouts. That really says something about Sonki and the warm community he has built. I’ve tried many routines over the years to keep fit – from running to gym classes to Soul Cycle and Yoga, but I have stuck with Sonki for longer than any of them. And I am just a newbie in Sonki-land: some of the people we work out with have been coming for more than a decade! I definitely feel stronger and fitter than ever before.

What is your current routine?  Sonki Fitness Boot Camp 3 times a week. Two hours of live ball (tennis) on a Saturday and a hike or run on Sunday’s.

What is your motivation to stay in shape?  I have twin 13-year-old boys, and I want to be able to keep up with them well into my old age. They are already faster than I am – but I can stay the distance!

What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape?  Hmm. I do love food and wine. And sleep.

What is your key to success?  It’s great to have a friend to keep you on track and keep you honest! I probably wouldn’t be able to keep this up without my friend Cerentha texting me the night before and making sure I’ve set my alarm.

What do you like about Sonki Fitness and how has it affected your life?  I love Sonki’s tough but calm and understanding attitude to fitness. While this is a true boot camp, no one is yelling or pushing you beyond your limits. I never feel like I’m at risk of getting injured – but I do push myself. Everyone is encouraged to do their best. It’s also incredibly inspiring (and fun) to work out with the same crew every week and know that they are going through their own challenges but still turn up with a good attitude and a great sense of humor.

What advice would you give to others about fitness?  For me, there is no beginning and end to getting in shape. It’s always been a work in progress. So find an environment where you feel good about yourself, even on your worst days. And show up.
