BACKGROUND: I’ve always had a difficult time working out consistently and with enough intensity. Doing the 6:30 AM Sonki Fitness Boot Camp 3 times a week has solved both of these problems. I feel stronger, have more energy and also have an effective way to relieve stress.

What is your current exercise routine?  Sonki Fitness 3 times a week. Free weights and the Santa Monica wooden stairs a few times a week as well.

What is your motivation to stay in shape?  Consistent exercise is one of the keys to long term health, and I want that!

What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape?  Waking up when my alarm clock goes off.

What is your key to success?  I wrote a check to my wife for $100. Each night, if I want to work out the next morning, I’ll tell her what time I’m going to wake up and what exercise I’m going to do (I usually do this over text so there is a record of it (e.g., I’ll text her “5:50AM, Bootcamp”)). If I don’t do what I say I’m going to do, my wife gets to cash the check! It allows the version of myself that is motivated to work out impose his will on the version of myself that just wants to sleep in. And after almost two years, my wife has never cashed the check – sleeping in isn’t worth $100! Also, having a workout friend who shares the same name as you helps a lot too (Hi Sean!).

What do you like about Sonki Fitness and how has it affected your life?  My favorite thing is Sonki (obviously)! And my next favorite things are the vibe and feel of the Sonki Fitness groups. Everyone is there to work out hard and support/encourage each other.

What advice would you give to others about fitness?  Up an inch. Down an inch. Up an inch. Down an inch. 3…2…1…RELAX. Also, get your workout in before you go to work – there are way too many excuses that pop up during the work day that get in the way of consistent exercise. Try my check trick described above to make your morning self wake up and work out. If you don’t have a significant other, you can write the check out to me!
