BACKGROUND:  I am not athletic at all, but I’ve always enjoyed being active. Before law school, I got certified as a yoga teacher by doing the 200 hour teacher training. Boot camp is not something I would typically sign up for because I am not a big fan of intense cardio and like to exercise at my own (slow) pace. Recently I started thinking that I wanted to get in the best shape of my life and so decided to just go for it. (I also wanted to convince my husband to work out with me and knew he wouldn’t do yoga.) We both joined Sonki Fitness, and it’s been such a great addition to our lives!

What is your current exercise routine?  Sonki fitness 3x a week, a hike on the weekend, and walks with my dog.

What is your motivation to stay in shape?  When I look at the clock after my workout and it’s only 7:30 AM, it makes me feel empowered to conquer the rest of the day because I’ve already accomplished something challenging, and I have the whole day ahead of me to keep the momentum going.

What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape?  Staying consistent when life gets in the way! I am not a morning person, but I find that it’s the only time I have to work out.

What is your key to success?  The key to my success is coming up with tricks to get out of bed in the morning. I try not to ask myself if I “feel” like getting up. Instead, I count down from 5 and just go!

What do you like about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp and how has it affected your life?  I love the energy it gives me to be productive and the confidence it gives me to step out of my comfort zone in other ways. Since I spend so much time in an office, it’s a refreshing break to be able to spend time outdoors with a nice community of people. The best part is looking up at the palm trees and the ocean at the end of a workout and feeling accomplished.

What advice would you give to others about fitness? I’m not an expert and can only speak to how it affects me personally, but I always feel better overall when I can get myself in a consistent fitness routine. I think it’s a wonderful thing to strive for!
