BACKGROUND:  I started running seriously after having three kids and turning 40. I entered 5-10 races/year, and I’m proud of a 41 minute 10K and 1:34 half marathon. I did a 6am bootcamp in Manhattan Beach for 10 years and ran with Club Ed, a masters running group there. We would do a track workout on Wednesday nights and run the hills in PV on Saturdays. I love working out outdoors and the camaraderie of an early morning group. I have some achilles pain that won’t go away and I can’t run long distance anymore, so Sonki’s mixed running/strength workout is perfect for me.

What is your current exercise routine?  I do Sonki Fitness 3x/week and a long walk or bike ride or hike 2x/week.

What is your motivation to stay in shape?  I always feel better when I start the day with cardio and get to see the sunrise and beautiful sky from the Santa Monica bluffs or the beach (and have some laughs). I expected it to take one year in Sonki’s class to see the changes of more muscle and endurance and a fitter body – that was my experience when I returned to exercise at 40. I’m at ten months now and really see and feel the difference. It feels great!

What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape?  Working from home has caused me to focus more on food. I finally lost the covid weight on vacation in July and want to keep it off.

What is your key to success?  I’m Type A.

What do you like about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp and how has it affected your life?  During Covid, Sonki’s class has provided community and social interaction and helped me feel connected despite working at my kitchen table for 1.5 years now.

What advice would you give to others about fitness?  Be patient.  Results don’t happen overnight but it’s worth it in the long run.
