BACKGROUND: I’ve studied Braziilan Jiu-jitsu for the past seven years and am currently a Purple Belt. I initially took Sonki’s class to get back into shape for that, but I enjoyed the class so much I’ve stuck with it for the past seven months. I’ve improved my strength, stamina and endurance. Over the past three months I’ve also improved my mile time from 12:57 to 9:14!

What is your current exercise routine?  Sonki Fitness three mornings a week and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu two to three times a week.

What is your motivation to stay in shape?  Mobility, endurance and my overall health. Plus I like to reach down with ease when tying my shoes.

What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape?  I like to eat what I like to eat.

What is your key to success?  I know I can do it.

What do you like about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp and how has it affected your life?  Sonki creates a fun and easygoing environment that encourages everyone to work out at their own pace. I like the people in class a lot, and the other Sonki Fitness instructors (Gabe, Cara, Sean and Karen) are top-notch. For a guy who has won so many fitness awards and who could probably inflict some major damage if he wanted to, Sonki seems like a pretty unassuming guy. He prods but he doesn’t push, unless that’s what you want. He also seems genuinely interested in the people in his class and what’s going on in their lives.

What advice would you give to others about fitness?  1) Find your zone between doing not enough and doing too much.  2) Consistency is key.  3) Someone has to finish last in the runs — it’s totally fine if it’s you.

Any other comments?  A special thanks to Mark Stoeckinger for introducing me to the class, and a very special thanks to my wife for encouraging me to improve my cardio!
