BACKGROUND:  I guess everyone has an injury story. For me it was getting two hip surgeries that stopped me from any type of movement for almost a year. After that, I had to re-calibrate to a new normal of who I am and what my body can no longer do. I knew if I ever wanted to get stronger, I needed a trainer who could work with my weird mix of challenges. Sonki has helped me listen to my body and understand the difference between dangerous pain and the pain that makes you stronger.

What is your current exercise routine?  Each week I have two personal training sessions with Sonki, at least one barre class, and a lot of salsa dancing!

What is your motivation to stay in shape?  My grandpa was 100 years ‘young’ when he passed away, and exercise was always a priority for him.

What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape?  Having a desk job, sitting in a car, and having healthy food readily available.

What is your key to success?  Reminding myself that every small effort should count as success. Some days all I had the energy to do was go for a walk, and that was enough.

What do you like about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp and how has it affected your life?  Sonki’s approach is to respect the body you have, and where it’s at. I no longer feel I’m fighting against what I’ve been given in the hopes of meeting an impossible standard. It’s always going to be a process.

What advice would you give to others about fitness?  I think fitness is very personal. Everyone is on their own journey, so give yourself kindness and grace as you move through yours.
