BACKGROUND: Since I am currently out of state and can’t participate in Sonki Fitness, I’ve been using the gym at work doing the Sonki Fitness basics: push-ups, pull ups, dips, sit ups, shoulder press, squats, and light jumping. I’ve lost 12 pounds doing this.
What is your current exercise routine? I try to cover the basics whether I have 10 minutes to workout or 45 minutes. If I have less time, then I do fewer reps. But I do try to cover all the muscle groups. I roughly average about 15-30 minutes before work, 15 minutes during lunch, and 5 minutes after work Monday through Friday. Sometimes I do more and sometimes I do less. But the key is consistency.
What is your motivation to stay in shape? I want to look and feel good as I get older. Also, my goal is to constantly strive to create a better version of myself everyday: physically, mentally, and spiritually.
What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape? Getting thrown off your work out schedule due to family events or other occurrences.
What is your key to success? Making exercise a habit and not getting discouraged if you “fall off the horse.” Keep getting back to your workout routine even if it means taking baby steps.
What do you like about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp and how has it affected your life? What I love about Sonki Fitness is that it’s outdoors, where you get to meet and work out with amazing group of people. The positive camaraderie at Sonki Fitness is nothing like I’ve ever experienced before. Also, many of the exercises entail using your own body weight for resistance training (instead of boring machine weights), which means once you learn them you can pretty much do them anytime and anywhere.
What advice would you give to others about fitness? Make exercise a habit and keep it simple. And ultimately, do what works best for you.
